The Opening 1

The Opening 1 is a unique hand made decorative Platter/ Wall Charger, turned and carved in a highly figured Scottish Walnut wood with a hand carved Arabic “Naskh” style calligraphy composition of the first verse of The Quran, Surah al-Fatiha.

al-Fatiha translates as “the opening” and is considered as not just the opening verse but as the verse that contains the essence of all the subsequent Quranic verses. The artwork is intended as a modern interpretation of traditional Islamic decorative Art, combining the craft of woodturning, revealing the natural beauty and patterns in the medium itself with the formal circular composition of the Arabic calligraphy, hand carved and gilded in 24k Gold Leaf.

Calligraphy translation:

“In the name of God the most Beneficent and the most Merciful. All Praise is for God the Lord of all the worlds, the most Beneficent the Most Merciful, the Ruler on the day of reckoning. It is You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the straight path, the path of those on whom you have bestowed your Grace and not the path of those who earned Your wrath or those who wander astray.”
